We are pretty much set on the amazon devices. Sorry for all of the questions, i'm still learning all of this. For my uses, wouldn't this be the better choice? Or am I missing something? With prices falling a LOT, can't i upgrade to two 8TB's once i get close to filling up the 4TB's in a few years or less? But is the EX2 Ultra bad like the M圜loud Duo? The Synology DS218+ is $289 for just the box, NO disk drives included. Can anyone offer any advice on what I really need to buy? The M圜loud EX2 Ultra comes with two 4TB WD drives (marketed as an 8TB) for $305 on Prime right now.

Side questions, why does everyone use PLEX? Seems like extra money and a more complicated setup? I am only looking for storage with RAID1 and possible FTP style sharing would be nice. My phone easily did the transcode for the movies in 1080p, while i was still using it for other apps. I can even stream from my phone (Galaxy S8) to Chromecast through VLC or to the Amazon cube using AllCast. Since they pack some horsepower, I loaded VLC onto them and can access folders on my computer and USB storage attached to my router, and transcode if needed. I have the Amazon Fire TV Cube in the living room, Fire TV with 4k Ultra HD in our bedroom and a first gen Fire TV Stick that we'll put in a guest room. Did anyone else read this article? Very in depth, and they do a pretty good job of explaining themselves!
